How many of you have heard of the BeWisER+About Brease Cancer? It is designed to help survivors on anti-estrogen therapy work with their doctor to individualize their treatment pathway. Their website is http://www.bewiseraboutbreastcancer.org/ If you are a survivor ER+breast cancer and have or will soon be completing 5 years of initial endocrine therapy, you and your physician will need to make a shared decision about your treatment beyond year 5. Breast Cancer Index (BCI) provides information based on your original tumor about the risk of the cancer returning and your likelihood of benefit from anti-estrogen therapy after year 5.
While recent studies have demonstrated that an additional 5 years of anti-estrogen therapy may help some women, only 3 to 5 out of 100 women who were recurrence free at 5 years benefited from extending anti-estrogen therapies beyond 5 years.
