December 18, 2016 was my one year anniversary of being cancer free. What a year it has been! All the ups and downs. In some ways the year seemed to go by fast, and in other ways it did not. I have been on Arimidex for exactly one year and I will be starting Tamoxifen now, simply because I have osteoporosis and the one of the side effects of Arimidex is bone loss. So I will report on how I am doing with the Tamoxifen after I get started on it. I did great on the Arimidex, I hope I do as well on the Tamoxifen.
For those of you who are not familiar with how Tamoxifen works, here is a brief description. "Tamoxifen is an "anti-estrogen" and works by competing with estrogen to bind to estrogen receptors in breast cancer cells. Tamoxifen is formally known as a selective estrogen receptor modulator (SERM). By blocking estrogen in the breast, Tamoxifen helps slow the growth and reproduction of breast cancer cells.
Here's to finding a cure in 2017, never give up...
